How do my student accounts work?
You have two separate Student Accounts:
- Campus Store Account: books, equipment, etc. are charged here. Electronic statements are viewable on Transact and payments can be made directly online.
- Tuition Account: Your tuition is charged here and any loans, scholarships, etc. are posted against this account. More information regarding tuition charges will be posted on the Portal during the summer and the Financial Aid Office will correspond with you via email as needed.
Where do I go for more Financial Aid information?
What are the computer requirements for MKBU?
Please see the "Recommended Computer Standards" document in the Helpful Documents section on the right side of this page. Note: SCCO does not require students to have laptops anymore. SPAS and COP still require their students to have laptops.
Parking permits are available for purchase via the portal starting August 2. For more information, or to purchase a permit, please see the MBKU Parking page on the Online Forms tab.
You will not need a permit to park in the parking facility during orientation but you will need a permit once classes begin. Parking is first-come, first-served.
Whenever students need to travel between campuses, it is expected they have/find their own transportation. Most classes figure out a carpool system via Google Doc spreadsheet, Facebook group, Uber/Lyft, or whatever works best for them. This is not something managed by MBKU.
Students usually move in during July or the beginning of August before school starts. Start contacting the apartment complexes in the area now and put your name on waiting lists if necessary. Check out Housing Information for additional information and assistance.
By law, MBKU cannot and does not tolerate the illegal use of drugs and/or alcohol. We are required to maintain a policy that ensures that students are absolutely prohibited from the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol on university property or as part of any university activity. Examples of controlled substances covered under this policy include narcotics (heroin, morphine, etc.), Cannabis (marijuana, hashish), stimulants (cocaine, diet pills, etc.), depressants (tranquilizers), hallucinogens (PCP, LSD, "designer drugs," etc.), and alcohol. For the complete policy regarding alcohol and drug use, please refer to the MBKU Student Handbook.
As of January 1, 2020, all California residents (regardless of citizenship status) are required to have qualifying health insurance coverage throughout the year. Residents who fail to maintain coverage each month could face a penalty at tax time, unless they qualify for an exemption. Generally, the penalty will be $850 or more when you file your state income tax return for the previous year. Insurance coverage is an expense that may be added to your financial aid budget/funding. Contact Financial Aid for more information.
If you plan on going out-of-state over school breaks or on clinical rotations, please make sure you have adequate coverage. Not all plans may be used outside of California.
The options available to students to meet this requirement are:
- You may be covered under a family policy.
- You may be covered through an employer-sponsored policy.
- You may be covered by Medi-Cal.
- You may be covered by a policy you have purchased for yourself. In California, you may seek coverage through www.coveredca.com or www.healthcare.gov.
